We have completed and published our first two books in Room 101. Today we read and highlighted our Color book and our Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Book. The kindergartners were very proud of their books! The students are working so hard in kindergarten. We hope they share these books with all of you!

Pine Glen's Science Night

We went to the Library!

We visited the Pine Glen library today and read the story Horrible Bear by Ame Dyckman with our school librarian, Ms. Small.  Each student was invited to select a book to borrow. Friends in room 101 will visit the library each week on Fridays.

Ms. Small demonstrated how to choose a book and return it to the correct spot if we decided we did not want that book.

Then we all checked out the book we want to borrow for the week.

Then at the end of class the students spent a few minutes reading the book they chose.

We Learned about Mr. Hoot!

We met Ms. Zanotti, Pine Glen's guidance counselor in the Learning Commons Room for a meeting with all the kindergarteners.  We talked about being appropriate, safe and kind at Pine Glen.  Students who do the right thing may be recognized by being awarded Hoot Cards that go along with our school mascot of an owl- Mr. Hoot. Students who are appropriate, safe and kind may also be recognized as a student of the week!

First Edition of Our Kindergarten News!

We had the whole group lesson on how to be Word Detectives on Thursday afternoon.  On Friday,  we each got our own newspaper and we were word detectives.  We completed the word hunting for the first page at school.  There are two more pages that can be completed at home and then the Bb song is attached to the back.  The students use a different color marker to circle each of the news high frequency words. The Kindergarten News was addressed at Pine Glen's Open House and information was given to parents about how to read the news with their child.  Please refer to the packet if you have questions about the news.  The students were challenged to complete the news for homework. It is in the RED homework folder. If the students complete the Kindergarten Highlights page according to the kindergarten journal expectations a prize will be earned!  (See page in the news) We hope we have some students complete this challenge.  Please send the RED homework folders in by Friday so the next set of homework can be sent home. Your child can also highlight all the Bbs in the song and circle the to words.  Remember we circle the word to with a dark blue marker, crayon or colored pencil.

Three Little Pigs

We have completed our mini unit on the 3 Little Pigs. We have read many different versions of the story. We have compared and contrasted the similarities and differences in the books and we are 3 Little Pig Experts now! We made the 3 Little Pigs houses and stick puppets for the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf. We told the students they should have a puppet show and retell the 3 Little Pigs story to their families. We were lucky enough to have some parents share the videos. As you can see the Kindergartners in Room 101 are EXPERTS! We are so proud of their efforts!

The books we read.

The houses and stick puppets we made.

We Tried a Lot of New Things!

One  of our morning meeting activities this week was Twinkle Friends (one of Dr. Jeans songs). The class seemed to enjoy this partner song.

We also enjoyed singing and moving to the Three Little Pigs and Building a House songs.

We all tried out the Chill Out Chair.

We also used the Workboard for the first time on Friday and we did a great job!

We tried out Quiet Time this week and by Friday we were all enjoying this 4 minute rest after recess to collect ourselves and refocus for our afternoon lessons.
