Spooky Fun!

Today we had a great day in kindergarten! We wore our costumes to school. For before school work we wrote the numbers and colored the picture to go on our November calendar.  Next we paraded up to see our 4th grade partners to show off our costumes. After, we posed on the stairs to do our first class picture. Then we ventured back to our classroom and worked on Seesaw and did two activities. One with Halloween syllable counts and the other was match the beginning sound to the correct Halloween picture. Then it was time for our party in the bag. We enjoyed our party bags that were packed at home. The kindergartners we so happy with their special snacks and notes. We watched Spookly the Square Pumpkin while the party in the bags were enjoyed.

Next it was time for our Owl Show with Miss Pavlicek! To go along with our Science unit on living vs. nonliving Ms. P. showed us many different pictures of owls and she played audio recordings of the different owl calls. We tried to move our head like an owl. We can't turn our heads as far as an owl. We learned that owls have really big eyes. We saw a owl skull and noticed how sharp the owls beak is. We also learned that owls eat, rabbits, mice, fish, frogs, snakes, insects and crayfish. Owls use their beak and talons as tools to help them eat. We use silverware and our hands to help us eat. Ms. P. left us some owl pellets that we will explore and be able to see what the owl had eaten! Owls have really great hearing. The owl has tiny holes on the side of her head that are her ears. We learned so much information about owls and we can prove that we know that they are living. We also posed with Scout to add a page in our memory book.

After the Owl Show we had library! Ms. Guild read us a book The Three Bears Halloween, and we chose new books to take home and read. We ended our day by playing Halloween bingo!

Be safe this Halloween! Wishing all our families a wonderful Halloween weekend. Please remember to help your child count their candy and fill out the candy count paper in the communication folder and send it back to school on Monday. Monday is our 2nd Reward Day. Students are wearing their pajamas to school and bringing a book and a flashlight so we can read with our 4th grade partners!

Jack-o-lantern Time!

Last week we learned about pumpkin parts and we did a cross section of the pumpkin. On Thursday, the students voted for how Mr. Parnell should carve the jack-o-lantern face for our classroom pumpkin. Mr. Parnell tackled this task at our house Wednesday night. The jack-o-lantern came out great!

Nature Walk

Friday morning we went on our Nature Walk with Ms. P. from the Burlington Science Center. We went hunting for living and non living items on our walk. We all had a great time seeing, touching and exploring in nature. Ask your student what they found on the walk that was living and non living and how they know!
