Blanket & Reading Challenge Reward Day

Today we had our culminating event for our Blanket unit and January Reading Challenge. We brought our blankets, flashlight and books to school. Made forts with our desks and blankets and then we had parents join us via Google Meet and read their favorite books to us. We had so much fun. We ended our day reading our two new books- Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival sponsored by Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Kearney and Who Would Win? Killer Whale vs. Great White Shark sponsored by the Trelegan Family. After reading these two books, the students chose one to write their own book review. Eight students liked Who Would Win and six students preferred Ruby.

Thank you to the 8 parents who joined us to read today, Mrs. Petelle, Mrs. Perkins, Mrs. Jalbert, Mrs. McConnell, Mrs. Trelegan, Ms. Lankenau, Mr. Martin and Ms. DeBye. All our reading spots were taken today, if any parents would like to join us via Google Meet on a different day please email Mrs. Parnell and we can set up a time. Our students enjoyed seeing their parents and listening to them read books today.

Thank you to all who participated at home with the January Reading Challenge. So proud of all the books read at home too. Our students filled 24 mugs with at total of 240 books read. We also made it to 325 books read on Epic this month. WOW! Amazing job Room 101.

With the freezing temperatures outside this weekend is a perfect time to do MORE reading! Curl up in a warm blanket and read, read, read, and maybe have some hot chocolate.
