We love art.

We had a wonderful trip to the Museum of Fine Arts today.  It was great to see all that we have been learning about.  Some of our favorites were the mummies, Degas' sculpture, The 14 Year Old Dancer which was in the impressionist's gallery and Jackson Pollack's painting entitled Number 10.

Special thanks to PTO president, Maria Woods, who graciously served as a tour guide, escorting us to the various exhibits.  She ensured that we got to see everything on our list in the short time we had!

Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Hoyt wish everyone a great vacation and ask the students to keep reading and writing over vacation.

We can count by 1, 10 and 5!

Suppose we had one paint palette with 5 colors on it..............there would be a total of 5 colors.  If we had 2 palettes they we would have 10 colors.  What if we had 3 or 4 palates?  We worked on many groups of 5.  What if there were 8, 9 or 10 palettes?  See if you can figure it out!

We are off to the MFA

Be sure to check out the portfolio when it arrives home.  There are samples of the many different styles of art and the various artists we studied!  We are very proud of our work!

On Friday we will be heading to the Museum of Fine Arts.  To prepare for our trip we were very busy this week finishing up our unit.  We learned more about the mummification process, Pyramids and the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt.  We even created our own mummy cases along with a headdress and collar    similar to those worn by the Egyptian kings and queens.

Our portfolios are assembled and will be going home with students later this week.  Please be sure to take the time to review all the items in the portfolio.  We have worked very hard on them.  You are certain to be impressed with all you will learn as you discuss the various pieces of art.

Welcome Leah!

Friends in Room 101 welcomed our new classmate, Leah, today.  Everyone was eager to meet with her and share what we have been learning.  We told her all about our study of Ancient  Egypt and art as we prepare for our field trip next week.
Leah fit right in sharing with us that she is an art lover and is very familiar with much of what we are doing!
We are all looking forward to working together and getting to know each other more next week!

Spring Time in Room 101

It has been a very eggciting couple of days in room 101!

We painted spring eggs like we saw in the book Rechenka's Eggs, we made spring baskets and a spring book about subtracting eggs.

Wait until you see our book about what bunnies do, and our bunny/ducks.  They are so cute!.................Of course not as cute as our class visitor, Turbo!
