Parents as Partners- Guest Readers!

Parents as Partners- Guest Readers!

Today Room 101 was lucky to have 8 of our parents volunteer to read to the students. (That is almost half of our class!) It was awesome to hear the students reading the books we have read in class to the parents and the students listened to the parents read some of their child's favorite books from home. It is so important for young readers to be read to and see the true value of reading. We also had parents participate in a movement break. We all moved to the song Macarena Months. Then we went back to reading and the last few minutes we passed around the Qball and shared what we liked the most. Thank you Mrs. Peckham, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Brady, Ms. Montemarano,  Ms. Mocuta, Mr. Jarvis and Mr. Interess for spending time reading, moving and sharing with us today!

Kindergarten News

First Edition of Our Kindergarten News!

We had a whole group lesson on how to be Word Detectives on Thursday morning.  Then we each got our own newspaper and we were Word Detectives.  We completed the word hunting for the first page at school.  There are two more pages that can be completed at home and then the Bb song and C songs are attached to the back.  The students use a different color marker to circle each of the news high frequency words. The Kindergarten News was addressed at Pine Glen's Open House and information was given to parents about how to read the news with their child.  Please refer to the packet if you have questions about the news.  The students were challenged to complete the news for homework. It is in the PURPLE homework folder. If the students complete the Kindergarten Highlights page according to the kindergarten journal expectations a prize will be earned!  (See page in the news) We hope we have some students complete this challenge.  Please send the PURPLE homework folders in by Friday so the next set of homework can be sent home. Your child can also highlight all the Bbs in the song and circle the to words.  Remember we circle the word to with a dark blue marker, crayon or colored pencil. On the C song, students should highlight the Ccs and circle the and words with an orange marker, crayon or colored pencil.

Kindergartners Write from the HEART

This week we started our journal writing in kindergarten. Yesterday we talked about writing from the heart. We brainstormed the items we love and hold in our heart and then illustrated these items in a heart that will be attached to our journals. The students were very proud of their heart illustrations and shared them at an afternoon meeting. Today we used our heart illustrations to attempt journal writing for the first time. All students were successful and were proud of their first entry.
