Animal Research Projects

Yesterday we had our animal project viewing party with our 4th grade partners. The students did a great job on this major research project and to celebrate together and applaud each others efforts was really a worthwhile experience! Great job kindergartners and 4th graders. Below are our Animal Videos. We hope you have time to check them out!

Guidance Lessons

Ms. Kendall, Pine Glen’s school counselor, came to our class weekly after we transitioned to a full day schedule. Ms. Kendall and her intern, Miss Green, helped us with identifying feelings, zones of regulation, expected vs. unexpected behavior, personal space, mindfulness, belly breathing and other life skills.

In this lesson the students were focusing on Feelings, recognizing them and how to work through the different feelings with calming strategies.

Butterflies

We have been learning about butterflies. We learned about the butterfly lifecycle, made stained glass butterflies and tie dye butterflies, and we have been following the butterfly life cycle by watching caterpillars turn into chrysalis'. We have been patiently waiting for our butterflies to hatch. Two of our butterflies hatched but both had deformed wings and did not survive to be released. Hopefully we will have better luck with the remaining five pupas.

Flat and Solid Shapes

This week we learned more about shapes and we composed our own flat (2 dimensional) and solid (3 dimensional) shapes using pipe cleaners, toothpicks and clay. The kindergartners were having so much fun our math hour flew by.  All students were engaged the whole time trying to create different shapes and then combine or stack them.

Popcorn Jar Reward- Mystery Bag Show and Tell

Room 101 students filled their popcorn jar again and voted for Show and Tell. To make it a bit more special we had the Mystery Bag Show and Tell. The students were so excited to read their clues and see if their classmates could guess their mystery item. This was a nice activity for a Friday.
