Classroom visitor

Susan Astone, District RTI Administrator stopped in for a visit this afternoon.

Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Hoyt were very proud of how welcoming room 101 was towards our guest.  Students were eager to share our recently published poetry book and the My Mouth is a Volcano book read earlier this week.  As you can see Mrs. Astone was swarmed with attention!

Above, below and on

Students created a structure with blocks and we then we applied our math concepts of the day and placed beanie babies above, below and on the structure!  Math can be super fun when the students initiate the learning!

Library Time

This morning we visited the library and listened to Martha Speaks!  Martha, a dog, learns to speak and then learns lessons about the appropriate time to speak.

Busy Working Hard!

We will have much to share with you at our Family Gathering.  Lately we have been working hard on a special book!
Today was the last day we worked on our shape books.  We used stamps to make the cover.
Subtraction word problems can be pretty tricky!

We Released Our Butterflies!

We were lucky to be able to release 3 adult monarch butterflies yesterday!  The science center delivered caterpillars to us more than a week ago and we have been studying the metamorphosis of this animal.  A few more remain in the pupa stage so we hope to witness more butterflies hatching in the next day or so.

A great day for learning outside!

After heading outside to release our butterflies we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and continued our study of colonial times outside!
We have begun reading our next chapter book, Meet Felicity.

Frogs and Toad Eat Lunch!

We watched the bullfrogs and Frodo the toad eat some crickets.  It was interesting to see the similiarities and differences in how they eat.

Circus tomorrow - Be sure to read the note in your child's folder

Reminder - we are going to the circus tomorrow, Friday, May 8.

Students should have a bagged lunch and drink.  No lunch boxes please as we will be discarding all items after we eat.

Reminder - Student pick up time is 1:45, outside at the map.  Please have a form of identification ready when picking up students if someone other than a parent is picking up.

Ready for Mother's Day!

We planted a rainbow just like the book by Lois Elhert!  Packaged plants went home with students today.  They will be sharing them with moms with the hopes that you can work together to take care of them at home.  When they are bigger and stronger they can be transplanted to your yards.

Time to start clowning around!

Working on a clown mask.

It is time to start clowning around and learning about the circus and the many different jobs that are involved in producing a circus show.  We will be learning about all the places around the world that the circus performers come from and will be hunting for their home countries on the map.

This mini unit will segway into our discussions about community helper jobs and our lessons about geography and where we live.

Look!

Look at that!  We have some new visitors! They arrived while we were at recess today.
The frog is green and likes to sit in the water sometimes.

The toad's bedding is soft and moist and helps to camoflauge him.

We all agree that our new visitors are pretty awesome.
