Hedgehog Show!

Today Ms. Pavlicek from the Burlington Science Center came to show us the Hedgehog Show. Earlier this week the kindergartners listened to the story The Mitten and we did a craft to reinforce the knowledge of the animals in the story. We learned that all the animals mole, rabbit, owl, badger, fox, bear and mouse are all animals that can be found in North America. The only animal in the story not found in North America is the hedgehog. The students enjoyed learning more about the hedgehog and then actually see Rascal the hedgehog run around in his little playpen and then all students were given the opportunity to touch the hedgehog.

As a homework challenge we are asking our students to retell the story of The Mitten. We have read the story, retold the story in class and went to Ms. P.'s show. If your child needs a refresher here is a YouTube video of the book being read aloud.

Parent Readers

Thank you to Mr. Conrad, Mrs. McElroy, Ms. Montemarano, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Jarvis, Mrs. Interess, Mr. Brady and Mrs. Grant for joining us for our Parent reading session this morning. We appreciate that you all took time out of your busy schedule to come in to read with us. All the students really look forward to this special reading time.

Bubble Space Lesson!

Ms. Kendall, Pine Glen's guidance counselor came in this afternoon to talk about bubble space. She taught us about trying not to "pop" anyone else's bubble space. She said that a hula hoop when placed around your body is just the right amount of space for kindergartners to have for themselves.  This was a fun lesson.

This Weeks Highlights November 19-21

We only had 2 1/2 days of school but we accomplished a lot! On Monday we read our Thanksgiving What Will We Eat? book and underlined the color words. We will be keeping this book at school until December 4th when the Italian High School students visit. We also made some snowflakes for the door and a stick snowman for decorating. We painted a giant evergreen tree and added snowflakes to it. With the winter like weather we have been having these items have been preparing us for the cold! We finished our Thanks A Lot book. We created our own board games and played them with a friend.  The Thanks A Lot book and board game were sent home in the big brown bag on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, our 4th grade partners came down and we read and colored a Kindness book with them and then we helped each other make friendship bracelets. We also learned a new program on the iPads. At conference next week we will distribute log in information so the app can be used at home. The program is called Raz Kids. It is a reading program and the students appeared to enjoy using the program and reading!

Today we went to a science assembly with Mr. Papadonis. Then we worked on our macaroni stars and went to the library and had snack before the half-day ended.

We hope all our Room 101 families have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Please remember we will be working on personal narratives when we return to school. If you can email me and share at least 3 photos so your child can write a sequence story of what happened 1st, next and last in their Thanksgiving day or any day they would like to write about. The pictures will help your child be able to remember what happened in their day.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!
