This week we learned more about art. We sketched and water colored self-portraits. We learned about Vincent Van Gogh and painted a still life of sunflowers using thick paint like Van Gogh. Ms. Fallon also highlighted Van Gogh and the kindergartners created their own Starry Night oil resist and water color pictures. We then moved on to a more contemporary artist, Jackson Pollock, and emulated him by marble painting with cool colors- blue, green and purple. The kindergartners have been enjoying learning about these artists and having the opportunity to go to a center table and move about the classroom a bit. After vacation we will be learning about Edgar Degas and Pablo Picasso.

Kindergarten Art Unit
We have extended our Art unit! Last month we learned about primary and secondary colors. We mixed colors and did some color experiments. The students were engaged and appeared to enjoy these color experiences. We have added learning about lines, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. We used the primary, secondary and pastel colors to paint these lines. We also made our own artist palettes and we stamped neon circles onto will will become our art portfolios.
This week we learned a lot about the famous French artist Claude Monet and on Friday we tried to emulate his painting style using small strokes (thank goodness our papers were small). Painting like Monet was challenging to try to paint with such small strokes. Monet helped to create the painting form called Impressionism. He enjoyed painting outside and later in his life he painted items in his backyard, lily pads, the Japanese bridge, etc. over and over again during different times of day to see how light effected how things looked. Many of Monet's painting are in art museums all over the world.

Last Weekend for the Egg-citing Word Hunt
Today I ventured out on the egg-citing word hunt. I visited all of our students houses and saw their words displayed! I was able to see Jake, Laine and Patrick outside their front doors and Ava waved to me through the window. Myles stopped by my house and I was able to talk to him through the window. Hope to see a few more friends at my house this weekend finding the sight words at my house.
