Teddy Bear Day!

We learned about the first teddy bear, created as a fun tribute to President "Teddy" Roosevelt in 1904.  This was wonderful way to begin our study of the Victorian Era. We read the Legend of the Teddy Bear by Frank Murphy. We learned that the Teddy Bear was named after President Theodore Roosevelt. We also read the story Winnie the True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie-The-Pooh by Sally M. Walker. We learned how the books by A.A. Milne came to be. The students wrote about why their bear is the best. We also read the American Girl story of Samantha, a little girl growing up in the early 1900's. We brought our own Teddy Bears in from home and went on a Teddy Bear Parade through Pine Glen. On our parade we stopped by our 4th grade partners classroom to show our buddies our bears.

It was exciting to read a chapter book.  We look forward to everyday and wonder what will happen next.  Already we learned about the first automobile, the Model T, how children dressed and were expected to behave.  Did you know that people did not have showers in their homes in 1903?

Mrs. Parnell's bears from home.  They have movable legs and arms and wear clothes, just like the first Teddy Bear!

Mr. Double Digit stopped by to try to stop the 100th day in K.
He was a couple days off since today was our 102nd day.

Hoots and Congratulations!

It was a busy week with our "no" snow day off on Tuesday and celebrating Valentines Day and our 100th day we did not have a lot of time for our apps this week. Congratulations to the students who did earn enough time on their apps and earned Hoot cards. We also had 3 students make it to the 100% club in ST Math. We are up to 14 members! Congratulations to Aahil, Charlotte and Caiden. We also had some students earn Symphony certificates and Superstar awards in Lexia. Congratulations to our at home readers and writers! Nice work Room 101!

Yea for the 100th day!

On Thursday, February 15th, we celebrated our 100th Day of Kindergarten. (Due to the snow day on Tuesday and our Valentine's Day celebration we had to postpone our 100th day celebration to the 101st day of K.) We are 100 days smarter! We had a great day. We dressed in our 100 bead necklaces, our 100 dot crowns and posed with our 100 stamped mats this morning. We then we had our Morning Meeting and shared our 100 Collection slide show. We made 100 fingerprints, wrote the numbers 1-100 and designed our own monsters with 100 things on them! We went to the library and when we returned we had our 100 Day Workout, did the 100 second scribble and 100 Day Dance Party. We hunted for 100 chicks after we read The Wolf's Chicken Stew. Then we wrote about our favorite part of the day. It was a FUN and BUSY day in K!
