Reminder - Bring your green communication folder

It was so nice to see all of you yesterday at orientation.  We are looking forward to a great kindergarten year.  Please remember to bring your GREEN communication folder to school every day starting Monday.  Remember Monday is Red day.  If you have red clothes you can wear them to school!  Enjoy the weekend.  Be sure to get some rest.  We will be very busy next week!

Dear Room 101 Parents,

We want to let you all know that part of our ELA block will focus on a review of colors.  Mrs. Hoyt and I will try to wear the “color of the day” for the first 10 days of school.  Your child is welcome to wear the “color of the day” too!  Please don’t feel like you need to go buy something. If your child has the colored clothes and if they would like to wear the color that would be great!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to Room 101!

Hello! Our names are Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Hoyt, your kindergarten teachers. We hope you have had a wonderful summer. We also hope that you are getting excited about starting school at Pine Glen! I know you will think it is interesting, challenging, and fun learning in our classroom. 

We have been very busy this summer spending time with our families, taking classes, reading, and thinking of new ideas to make learning exciting for you and your friends.

In addition,  we have been working really hard getting our classroom and materials ready. We hope you like it!

If you are going shopping before school starts, there are some supplies we need. Your donations are most appreciated. Tissues, Wet Wipes for hand cleaning, hand sanitizer, Zip-lock baggies all sizes and Bounty Paper towels.  Plastic grocery bags and brown paper grocery bags are especially helpful as we use them to package your projects to send them home.

We are looking forward to meeting with you at orientation in September!

Make Way for Ducklings!

We went to Boston today and rode the swan boats.  In addition, we had a great time checking out Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings in the Public Gardens. It is great to make the connection to the book.  We saw the Hall of Flags at the State House and met with Mrs. Parnells' former student , and intern Adam Tiggis before we walked down Beacon Street hunting for the historical items we learned about.

Fun and Games

While our friends in grades 1-5 enjoyed field day activities on Thursday, the kindergarteners at Pine Glen participated in some fun and games too!  We used the parachute and competed in an egg carry relay.  It was a lot of fun.

Checkers!

As part of our studies of life in Colonial Times we have begun to play a few games.  This week we have played checkers and we plan to learn to play dominoes.  Our studies have included discussions about how the American Flag has evolved, how many states are in our country, and what some of the American Symbols are.  Do you know what Uncle Sam stands for???  U.S.?
We met Felicity, an American Girl, as we read about her experiences when young people in America were deciding if they were Loyalists or Patriots.  Some of the students debated which they would have been.
We are looking forward to our trip to Boston next week when we can see some of the architecture and structures we have learned about that are still there.  We will also see some of the flags we have learned about.  Of course we are also looking forward to seeing the swan boats and Ducklings statue.
