Bowling Reward with our 4th Grade Partners!
Students in Room 101 filled their Popcorn Reward Jar and voted to bowl as a reward. Miss Govoni Pine Glen's Physical Education Teacher grated us permission to use the gym and with her help and the assistance of our 4th grade partners in Mrs. Visocchi's room we had another AWESOME experience! It was so wonderful to see how excited the students were to be having fun with their classmates and buddies orally communicating and exercising! I'm sure the students will remember this experience!
Ground Hog Day
All the kindergarten classes joined together on Thursday morning to see if Puxatauny Phil the ground hog would see his shadow. According to the poll taken in Room 101 most of the students and their families were hoping for an early spring, but Phil saw his showed which means 6 more weeks of winter! We had fun with all the kindergartners when we watched with anticipation to see what would happen!
Reading Groups!
Reading Groups have begun in room 101! For many of us this is a very special time! Students enjoy the opportunity to work in small groups with a teacher. They show so much pride in the accomplishment of reading and love to share this skill at home.
Each time students work in a small reading group they will
be sent home with a reading pouch and be given the
direction to do additional reading at home. Typically
beginning readers are told to read the book at home
multiple times. They can read to a parent or sibling,
a stuffed animal or pet or even to someone on the telephone
or via a face time conversation! Reading the familiar text
will help students build fluency and confidence!
We practice attending to what we are reading by previewing
our books and looking at the pictures, hunting for familiar
words and attempting to decode some tricky words before we
read. Then we keep our focus on one word at a time by using
our fingers as a guide as we read the words! Our teachers try
to give us books that are the "just right" challenge to help us
read!

Global School Play Day was a SUCCESS!
The students in Room 101 had an AWESOME time playing today! Global School Play Day was a huge SUCCESS at Pine Glen. All kindergarten students commented on how FUN school was today. They all enjoyed being able to make their own choices and play whatever they wanted. The two hours flew by. The discussions at lunch were all about how they all LOVED their morning playing. We need to remember that children need time to PLAY!
Though our morning was unstructured, many staff were involved supporting and modeling communication and social skills. Students practiced cooperation, turn taking and respect of differences. Our mathematical counting skills and abilities to notice similarities and differences were reinforced too! We also worked on caring for our own and others equipment and cleaning up after ourselves. So many communication/interpersonal skills are needed to play cooperatively. We were very proud of our students today.
