We Tried Lots of NEW Things this Week!

This week we have done many things for the first time. 

Lining up under the awning like the big kids.
Getting ready to do this without teacher help.

Song, Chant and Some Observations After Our First Week.......

Hello Parents- We sent home a lot of new information in the communication folders today.
We forgot to attach our A song and Chant to our note that went home today.
Please see below.

The start of the school year can be very busy, tiring and a bit overwhelming.
 Everyone is doing quite well.  That said, we would like to share a couple of 
observations and thoughts to help the positive energy continue.

1- Eat breakfast.  It may be difficult but we do encourage you to get a
good meal into your children in the morning.  Even after our snack in the morning 

students are still saying they are hungry! PLEAS BE SURE TO PACK YOUR CHILD"S

SNACK IN A SEPARATE BAG and PLEASE SEND IN A WATER BOTTLE. This will help

us have our snack time be efficient! We eat lunch at 11:00 am.  

2- Rest, rest, rest - We are quite busy the entire time we are at school.  The children
 have done well thus far but we are noticing that many are tired (especially during the 
last hour).  Tuesday we had a couple friends ready to put  their heads down for a little 
rest!  The second half of the week will be a little more challenging for all  in terms of 

stamina and staying focused for a school day.  If possible, we recommend tucking
everyone into bed a little earlier the next few nights.

Back to School Night for Parents 2017

Back to School Night for Grown-Ups is scheduled for this Wednesday, September 13thfrom 6:00 to 7:30.  The night will begin in the cafeteria at 6:00 with opening remarks from the principal.  We will leave the back doors of the cafeteria open to parents in order that they can enter and exit the building through the cafe.  At 6:15 parents are free to proceed to classrooms.  We will continue to have two informational sessions.  The first session will be held from 6:15-6:45.  The second session will run from 6:55-7:25.   Parents are welcome to attend either session.

This is a great evening when teachers and parents can discuss expectations, curriculum, classroom

procedures and establish partnerships between home and school.  We regret that we are unable to

provide child care.  We appreciate parents making arrangements for the care of their children in order to attend this important evening.

Successful First Day!

 Hello Parents!

We had a fantastic first day.  All students left with a prize!  Be sure to ask your child about the sealed envelope in their backpack.  We will talk more about our incentive program at Open House on Wednesday, September 13th.

Orange Day is tomorrow.  We will learn about the Nursery Rhyme Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater. We will learn more about the Three Little Pigs, and introduce choice areas.

Be sure to get plenty of rest.  This first week of school makes everyone (teachers included) very tired.

We were all hungry for lunch. 

We had fun on the playground.

We had two minutes of quiet time to refocus for our afternoon of learning.

We worked on how to properly hold a pencil, did some rainbow writing and we made our
September calendars. All students did a check plus job and earned a prize today!

Kindergarten Orientation 2017

Thursday we had our Kindergarten Orientation.  We welcomed many families back to Pine Glen and we introduced many new families to the Pine Glen family. We will have 19 students in our class this year. Looking at all the newly created name tags the students made they are all ready for kindergarten! The new kindergartners took their first job seriously and did an excellent job. We will be using these name tags during our Morning Meeting on Monday.  

We hope your child enjoys the copy of the Kissing Hand that was given to them at orientation. We are hoping to start your child's kindergarten library this year with lots of books to read! This book would be a great book to read together on Sunday night-  the night before KINDERGARTEN!

It has been wonderful getting to know all of the families of our students through our Listening Conferences. More than 50% of the families have met with us already! Please remember that Mrs. Kearney and I are available to communicate with our families whenever the need arises.

Thank you for attending Orientation!  We hope to see you all again next Wednesday night, September 13th, from 6-7:30 at our Open House.  We will be going over curriculum.  This evening is for parents. We will hold two sessions 6:15-6:45 and 6:55 -7:25.  Please send survey forms back to Pine Glen on Monday so we will know when to expect you.   Also remember Monday is red day!

Summer Challenge Update

Last June, Mrs. Kearney and I challenged our kindergartners with a summer writing challenge. We are pleased to announce that two of our students fulfilled this challenge. Both Owen and Evan wrote in their journal once a week, every week of the summer, adhering to the kindergarten expectations. Owen and Evan wrote at least 3 sentences and an drew an illustration with 6 colors for each entry!  We loved reading about all the adventures that were had over the summer. Congratulations! Continue to write in your journals. We'd love to read more about all the different things you are all doing in your lives. We would love to read any of our past students journal writing. Hopefully you all remember our classroom is Room 101!
