Creepy Crawlies have Arrived!

Miss P. from the Burlington Science Center visited our classroom today.  She shared the Creepy Critters with us.  She introduced us to the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches from the insect family, Legs the tarantula from the arachnid family and Galileo the corn snake from the reptile family.

We talked about these animals being living things and what they needed to live. Miss P. told us that living things need to be able to move, they need water, food and that all living things have a lifecycle, they are born, grow, reproduce and die. We also talked about some things that are not living, rocks, paper, crayons, etc. Living vs. nonliving is a bit challenging for kindergartners. We will be working on this theme throughout the school year.

We all held or touched Galileo then we sketched and labeled the creepy animals. It was a fun day!

On Thursday we were very excited to watch Galileo eat!

4th Grade Partners

On Wednesday we met up with our 4th grade partners for the first time. We had Morning Meeting with them, then did a shake break and read a few books together. A great time was had by all. We are very excited about this partnership and we look forward to many learning experiences with our partners!

This Weeks Highlights!

Highlights from our week. We used the Qball during our Morning Meetings for introductions and for our activity Boom Counting. We labeled a classmate, thanks Bella for volunteering! We also labeled our classroom. We worked on the letters n and m and we worked on numbers 4 and 5 this week.  Mrs. Kendall PG's new guidance counselor came in to meet all of us and did a lesson on Kindness. Ask your child how they can fill someone's bucket. Ms. Tigges PG's DSC Kindergarten teacher stopped by to share a book with us about differences. We will start visiting Ms. Tigges room one day a week during our intervention block. We also started working on our Science unit on Push and Pull. On Friday afternoon all the students explored the Let's Find Out website and played some educational games, listened to the magazine being read or watched short videos about the subjects in the magazine. Thank you to our parent volunteers this week- Mr. Conrad, Mrs. McElroy, Mrs. Jarvis and Mrs. Anderson. Our kindergarten program is more successful with parent involvement!
