Egg-citing Spring Sight Word Hunt

Let the hunting begin!

The Pine Glen Community both kindergarten and beyond has

created a fabulous word hunt!  More than 60 words

(you may find a duplicate!) are hidden in yards and on

houses around the Pine Glen District and greater community. 

Rules are simple    

     -  Stay on the road - do not enter yards

• Hunt for words between April 9 and 12
• Send photos to your teachers of all the
• fun your family is having.

April 8 - Read Aloud - I Love You Blue Kangaroo!

Mrs. Kearney reads I Love You Blue Kangaroo! By Emma

Chichester Clark. Every night Blue Kangaroo falls fast 

asleep, cuddled in Lily's arms. But as new toy animals 

start arriving, Blue Kangaroo worries that there just isn't

enough room for him anymore. 

Talk about the story

The book offers many opportunities for children to

think and talk about their own favorite toys and 

how they feel about them.

Make an informative poster of your favorite toys!  

Include drawings of your favorite toys and describe

them like Lily does ‘Wiggly Green Crocodile’. You can

include a photo of the child with each or his/her  

favorite toys.  Children can describe them and 

write who gave it to them, where they keep it,  

what they like doing together and what 

is special about the toy.

Sing a counting song

Lily ends up with lots of toys in her bed. How many

altogether? Sing the song Ten in a Bed. 

Practice spelling your number words too!

Try to complete this counting paper.

We sure do enjoy stories that have animal characters. 

Cali’s dad was kind enough to share a story about

pigs in a parade!  A pig parade might sound
like fun, but this book will convince you otherwise.

We may not be able to have an actual pig parade, but

perhaps you would like to make a pig and parade it

around your house!

Wrap 3 toilet paper tubes with pink construction paper,

and use some scraps to make ears and arms.

Use markers for the details.

Once your pig is complete, perhaps you would like

to make a blue kangaroo….try this link!

April 7- Read Aloud - Love You Forever

Today Mrs. deSalvador reads Love You Forever by

Robert Munsch. This story was written around a poem:

I'll love you forever,

I'll like you for always,

As long as I'm living

my baby you'll be.

This story takes us through the life of a child and all the growing
and changes that he went through, and the whole journey of his life
his mom was there caring for and loving him. This story makes me
think of  our Kindergarten science unit on life-cycles and how living
things grow and change. I think about the chicks!

  

Today may be a good time for you to think back to the chicks

we watched grow and change and maybe you could create your

own life cycle for the chicks. Remember how they grew and

changed.

This book was about how much a mom loved their child.

For writing today you could cut out a heart and write a

love note to someone you love. Thank them for something

they did to help you!

Here is a link to cut out a heart. Think back to when we

made our paper snowflakes at school and we drew half a

heart on the fold of the paper, and when we opened the

paper it was a whole heart cut out. Today you can make a

half heart on the folded part of the paper and then cut on

that line. When you open the paper it should be a heart.

We talked about symmetry at school, when both sides are

the same. I hope you brighten someone’s day today when you

cut a heart and write a note on it!

Mrs. Kearney took the time to send each student in Room 101 a letter in the mail. Thank you Mrs. Kearney! She included a craft that we would have hung on our classroom door at school. If you colored your kite and designed a person that looks like you have mom or dad email me a picture and I will post it! I have received a few so far. Check them out. Awesome job everyone!

JiJi informed us that Ryan had made it to the 100% club! We are so proud of your efforts Ryan! Our class is now at 78%. Keep working on ST Math. We can't wait to receive our next post card from JiJi and see who will be next in the 100% club.
