Polar Express Day!

The kindergartners were fortunate to be able to have Mr. Lyons read The Polar Express story to us. He read the book to us in the PG cafeteria. The kindergartners brought their stuffed animal friends to listen to the story. After Mr. Lyons read the book the kindergartners purchased a snack and a beverage from the PG kitchen and had hot chocolate!

After we had our special snack in the cafeteria we returned to our classroom and participated in some fun activities! The students played the Dreidel Game with Mrs. Kearney, made tri-bead candy canes with Ms. Powers, a train scene with Mrs. Brady and wrote a journal entry about Polar Express day for  memory books with Mrs. Parnell.

After our fun morning the students went to lunch and then we watched part of the movie The Polar Express. The movie was a big hit. We also spent some time in the gym because it was SO COLD out!

St Math Update

The students of room 101 were proud of themselves! We received a post card from JiJi congratulating our class on being 30% complete with the program. Keep working Room 101, great job!

K & 4th Grade Animal Project

On Wednesday we worked with our 4th grade partners again. On this day we finished our animal masks, reviewed the animal scripts that were written last week and then students recorded their scripts in front of the green screen. Next Friday, December 23rd we will have a viewing party with our 4th grade partners and students will enjoy their party in a bag during the viewing! We are so excited to see the videos. The students have worked so hard on this project.

Cooperative K & 4th Grade Animal Project Update

We are progressing with our cooperative Kindergarten and 4th grade partner Animal project. This week we worked with the 4th graders on Tuesday and Wednesday! On Tuesday the students worked together to create animal masks that represented the animal they researched. The students continue to impress us with their ability to work together, share and help each other and LEARN in the process.

Hour of Code

On Monday, Mr. Donoff came to our classroom to help us learn how to code. We used a website to code and the students were excited to help Red the Angry Bird get to the Green Piggie by using direction N, S, E, W arrows. We were impressed by how well the students did with this new skill. We used the chromebooks for the second time this year and getting use to the touch pad and a mouse was a difficult task for some students. All students received a certificate for completing the Hour of Code. Nice work Room 101! 

Diwali

Last week we learned about the Hindu holiday Diwali. This holiday was celebrated earlier this fall. We made diyas, rangoli and we created a fireworks page in our holiday book. The students enjoyed learning about this holiday. We are making connections with similarities among the different holidays celebrated by our students. All these special items will go home in the big snowman goody bags the students made. We will send the bags home some time next week (@ December 21st or 22nd).

Room 101 Parents thank you for meeting with us to discuss your wonderful child this week.  We love our jobs and enjoyed the opportunity to meet with you.  We have a supportive classroom community and we appreciate all your child's efforts at school. You all should be very proud of your children!

Thank you for sending back the Polar Express forms and Innovation day forms. We are missing a few. Please send them in on Monday.

We will be looking at winter plants.   If you have any interesting winter greens to share, please send in a small clipping.  Perhaps you have a live holiday tree.  If you have the bottom piece cut off, consider sending it in so we can count the rings to figure out how old it is!  So far we only have two tree bottom cuts. We would love more evergreen items to explore!
