We now have frogs and and a toad! Before leaving the animals we learned a bit about them and discussed the similarities and differences. Be sure to ask your children about which animals like the wet moss and which likes the dry wood chips. What animal family are the toad and frog in? Which ones have bumps and which are slimy. Ask why the frog tends to be green and the toad brown. Perhaps your son/daughter will tell you about the different sounds the frogs and toad make.
We thought learning about the nictitating membranes (the transparent eyelids) was particularly interesting. I allows the frog to see clearly underwater by shielding the eyes. (Similar to swimming goggles over one's eyes.)
