Successful Week 3

We had another busy week in kindergarten. The kindergartners are becoming morning routine experts and they are transitioning into the classroom like professionals. We have had another FULL week of learning.

On Monday, We started to learn about a new app on the iPad, Seesaw. This app will be used frequently (especially if we need to do any remote learning). Please take the time to join the family app so you can see your child's work. Homework folders will be going home for the first time on Friday and there will be an assignment on Seesaw to help familiarize your child (and you) about all the tools and how to use them! We also read our Nursery Rhyme books, had our Writing Folder Fashion Show and wrote our Kindergarten News for the first time. We also worked on numbers 3, 4 and 5!

Tuesday's highlights include Starting Writers Workshop. Writing is hard, especially for kindergartners. All efforts should be applauded. We also learned more about Seesaw, had a fire drill, practiced numbers 4 and 5, read Chicka, Chicka Boom, Boom and the Crayon Box. We worked on day two of the news, subitized, recorded the calendar, temperature and day count. We also made our jack-o-lantern calendar pieces.

On Wednesday we continued to learn more tools in the Seesaw app. We also continued learning about Writer's Workshop. We have new socially distanced learning partners to talk about and share our writing with. We also worked on numbers 5 and 6, and started the 5 Little Pumpkin book. Ask your kindergartner what tools writers need. It was a rainy day so we waited until the rain slowed down and we went out under the PG awning and sat in the middle, where is was dry to eat our snack and have our read alouds. Today we read Pete the Cat, I love My White Shoes and Pet the Cat I Love My School Shoes. These stories were enjoyed by all. We had a bust morning and we enjoyed this morning break.

On Thursday we learned What Writers Do! Writers think, then they talk to someone (in school we have thinking partners), then students sketch an illustration and write. The last step is sharing with someone. Giving the students an audience for their writing gives their writing purpose. Sharing will be with their thinking partner or with the whole class depending on the assignment.

We also worked on our pumpkin books, number seven, the topic opener for our math program and our Kindergarten News (please see separate post on this). We read a couple alphabet books had our Morning Meeting and went to the playground.

On Friday, It was Crazy Hat day. We also had the first Hoot of the week. Congratulations to Patrick! We learned more about apples. We estimated how many seeds there were in the apple. The students had some great estimates with three students right on the nose! We also cut an apple to see the cross section of the apple. We learned about the different parts of the apple and then we colored a diagram of the cross section. We read our Counting Books, practiced writing our numbers 1-7, worked on our pumpkin book, started our Envision Math program.
