Protect the Popsicle Engineering Challenge

To go along with our Protect the Earth CKLA unit we have been learning some science facts and we touched upon the water cycle. We are learning about the states of water, liquid, solid and gas. Tuesday morning the kindergartners worked with their 4th grade partners to discuss, plan and build a shade structure to protect the popsicle. On Tuesday afternoon, we tested out our structures. It took about 6 minutes for the control freeze pop to completely melt. We then took the freeze pops out of the structures and measured how much of the freeze pop melted. The students enjoyed eating their own freeze pop while the control pop melted in the sun. Then we went over all the results We had a successful challenge! Great job everyone!
