April 6 - Read Aloud - Chameleons Are Cool

Today is also Mindful Monday- To celebrate the beauty in the

diverse spectrum of the human mind, wear rainbow and/or

tie-dyed clothes. Email a picture to your teacher.

Ms. Sacco told listeners she loves this non-fiction book because it is
presented like a story.  In it you will learn about the Chameleon, its 

ability to change color, it’s sharp-shooting tongue, and  the skin
covering its eyes. Listen in as Ms. Sacco shares this Martin
Jenkin’s book from the Read and Wonder collection,
Chameleons Are Cool.

Many people think chameleons change color to match their environment,
but this is a myth. Chameleons don’t change color to match their

environment. Rather, they change color as a response to mood,

temperature, or light and moisture in their environment!  How

do you change when you are in different places or have different

feelings?

Record yourself and share.

The illustrations of the chameleons in the book are done in
watercolors.  Perhaps you could draw and color a chameleon of
your own! See directions shared from the website the
Adventures with Miss B.

The first step will be draw the chameleon, then outline with sharpies

then fill with water colors!

Monday, Autism Acceptance Day (April 13th)– Love and acceptance go a
long way. Wear red to show your support and acceptance of individuals
with Autism !

Sensory Friendly Monday (April 27th)– People with autism often have a
variety of sensory sensitivities. Dress up today in your most comfy-clothes
(school appropriate sweatpants, pajamas, etc.). 

Sight Word Hunt Fun

We have volunteers for our first dozen words!  

There are approximately 60 words.  

Will you join in the fun.  It does not matter where 

you live.  Words can be hung in apartment windows, 

on doors, or even at the mailbox!  They just have to 

be visible when someone drives or walks by. These are

the eggs you will find if you go by my house or my

parents house for the word hunt! So much FUN. 

I can't wait to find all the words.

April 3- Read Alouds- Mouse Paint & White Rabbit's Color Book

Coloring mixing and painting are always super fun in

kindergarten.  Today we offer two read alouds about

the topic of color mixing. Mrs. Parnell reads Mouse

Paint and White Rabbit’s Color Book and then challenges

kindergartners to explore the concept of color mixing.

Egg-citing Spring Sight Word Hunt

Egg-citing Spring Sight Word Hunt

In years past we have had a fun sight word hunt at the end of
our chickhatching unit. (Our chicks last day was Wednesday 4/1.)
For obvious reasons, our plan must change. However, we have a
fun and egg-citing(optional) idea and opportunity for our
kindergarten families.

What - Help hide some sight words on an egg-shaped paper
somewhere the front of your house (can be on a door, window,
or in your yard). Drive or walk through the Pine Glen
Neighborhoods (we will give you the addresses) and
hunt for the words.

Logistics - 

1-Sign up between now and April 5

2-Teachers will assign a word(s) on April 6

3-Hide and hang words by April 8 and teachers will
send a list of words for all to hunt for.

4-Hunt for words between April 9 and 12.

5-Send a few photos to your teachers during the
process of egg making, hiding, and hunting and we
will share them with one another.

April 2- Read Aloud- Say Something ** Wear Blue Today**

Remember today is World Autism Awareness Day. Wear blue to

support this cause and email Mrs. Parnell a picture of you wearing

blue so she can share it with everyone!

Pine Glen RtI tutor, Ms. Cacciola shares Peter Reynold’s book,

Say Something. Reynolds explores the many ways that a single

voice can make a difference. Each of us, each and every day,

have the chance to say something: with our actions, our words,

and our voices.

In this book, readers are encouraged to be an upstander. An

“upstander” is someone who recognizes when something is

wrong and acts to make it right. - Draw a web like the one

below and write the word upstander in the middle of the grid

and then add the titles of people who acted like upstanders in

the book in the outside circles. You may need to listen to the

story again to be able to fill out this web. There are more

upstanders in the book than on the graphic organizer below.

You can pick the ones you like or add more circles!

Listen to this motivational video. You Are Courage.

Pull out your dice and color the numbers as your roll the

Why Can't I Go To School Today

A few families have reached out and shared 

that their children are missing school and do 

not quite know why we have to stay home.

I have heard from some of my students about their missing

their friends. I also received a video from a student saying 

that he misses school and he can't wait until after this virus 

is gone and we can go back to school. I'm in 100% agreement.

I miss school too!

Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Kearney miss all of our friends 

as well.

Miss Macs from the Story Shack has created a story 

to help our kindergartners understand.  She also takes 

a few minutes to explain why some people all look a 

little different when they are out and about.  Feel free 

to preview and to share it with your child.
