Highlights for the Week of January 4th

This week we got right back to work after vacation. Teachers learned at Monday's professional development day that we would be returning to COVID protocols from 2020. We were told to try to keep our students 3 feet apart while in school, this guidance has changed what our school day looks like. We are still having students engage in art crafts and book making for morning work, but are are limiting how many students are at each table and we are spacing students out more. We feel as though these centers allow for students to build fine motor skills and be social with their classmates and so far we have found a way to keep our students participating in these activities. We have not used our bench seating or the rug area and most of the student instruction has been taught whole group with students sitting at their individual desks using their individual supplies. We are hoping that this surge will not last long and we can get back to our regular kindergarten instruction in a few weeks.

We have jumped into learning about sea creatures this week along with our Blankets, Quilts and Afghan study. The students are excited about being able to share a special blanket with their friends. The like playing the 20 questions game and then seeing the revealing of the item. The blanket sharer then asks a friend to help with measuring the length and width and seeing what shape their special item is.

We are also learning about Instruct Writing. We are working on a book and poster about How to Get Dressed in the Winter. We read a book about how to make Hot Chocolate and we looked at Google slides about other instruct writings. Soon we will work on an instruct manual about How to Build a Snowperson.
