Highlights of the Week of May 23rd

This week we learned more about American Symbols in Social Studies. We learned more about the butterfly lifecycle as we watched our caterpillars grow and change. Then form their chrysalis and finally hatch into butterflies. We continued our work on our map book and we started reviewing where we live. Kindergartens should know their address including number and street, town, state, country and continent!

We have also been working on our Father's Day gifts and writing about Dad. We are reading a book about water, caller Hey Water to help get us ready for our engineering challenge. We learned lots of information about water and compared two non-fiction books. We looked at non-fiction text features and learned the different states of water- solid, liquid and gas. Students read water books on Epic and took comprehension quizzes on these books. We were impressed with their comprehension!

We also got ready for our Read Across Pine Glen Day, which will be on Tuesday, May 31. The students each picked 10 of their favorite books from our reading groups to put in their book bags for our big reading day!

We released 5 of the butterflies that hatched. We are still waiting on a few more to hatch.  We finished our Father's Day writing, learned more about American Symbols and we worked on our Map books.

On Thursday we had out trip to the Franklin Park Zoo. See separate post for the zoo.

On Friday it was SuperHero day, Parent Readers and our Animal Project viewing party. See separate post for this special day.
