Egg-citing News!

On Monday afternoon Ms. Pavlicek came and put 7 eggs into our incubator. She had been caring for them in a giant incubator at the science center for 19 days. This meant that the chicks should hatch between Tuesday and Thursday (@21 days). When we arrived on Tuesday three eggs had pips and before lunch our first chick hatched. The students have been so excited by this process. Their observation journals are very detailed to document all the growth and changes the eggs have gone through to become chicks and how quickly the chicks are growing!

As a culmination of our discussions about eggs and color mixing, we colored eggs. The eggs we colored are styrofoam.  We painted wooden chicks to go in our baskets yesterday. We worked on a bunny/chick poems and we will finish our bunny book tomorrow. Our Spring baskets will be sent home on Thursday.

Finally, we went on a sight word egg hunt this afternoon!  Students, prepared with clipboards and pencils took to the field to crack open eggs and read and record words! We had so much fun
