Happy Birthday, Hoots, Certificates & Congratulations

We celebrated Mark's birthday on Friday. He will be six on Sunday. Happy Birthday Mark! This week we made it to 90% as a class completion on ST Math. We had many students receive JiJi puzzle pieces for working so hard on the March Mathness Challenge from Mrs. Sheppard. We had a few students get to the next decade percentage on ST Math. We had many students earn Hoot cards this week and we had one student complete our monthly at home reading challenge.

Preparing for Our Chicks - Ms. P's Science Center Chick Show

We started learning about lifecycles in school. We looked at photos of Mrs. Parnell growing up and changing and then looked at photos of her daughter Lindsay growing and changing. We watched two short videos of Ms. P from the Science Center meeting with the farmer and getting the eggs and then we saw the giant incubator at the Science Center that will be taking care of the eggs until they hatch. We will be watching more videos about the chicks and how they are growing and changing in their eggs and then we will have eggs in our classroom incubator to watch the chicks hatch. We will be keeping a science observation journal to document the changes that the chicks will be going through. The students have been excited to learn about the chicks. We will make a craft of a chick hatching out of the egg we will write about our chicks. We will color our own spring eggs and next week the eggs will arrive and we will search for our sight words in eggs out on the field. We have egg mania at school!

On Tuesday, Ms. Pavlicek came to Pine Glen and did the Science Center Chick Show. Ms. P. showed us all the different parts of the egg and talked to us about the life cycle of a chicken. We got to meet two of Ms. P.'s chickens from her coop at her house, and Addie pretended to be the hen and then she sat on her clutch of 10 eggs! Student also participated in learning the different sizes of eggs laid by different birds. The students are very excited about the chicken eggs coming to our classroom on Monday, April 31st and the eggs should start hatching Tuesday - Thursday, April 1st- 3rd (after the 21 day incubation).

Hoot of the Week, News, Congratulations

This week Katherine was named Hoot of the Week for Kindergarten. Congratulations Katherine!

We also said goodbye to Sarah. She will be visiting her grandparents in China for the next three months. Sarah will be missed in Room 101.

We had a student volunteer this week on Wednesday. Miss Mila an 8th grader from Austin Prep and former Room 101 student, volunteered all day with us. She was a big help and the students loved her.

We had some students earn Hoot cards, Lexia certificates, percentage certificates in ST Math, JiJi puzzle pieces from Mrs. Sheppard for being among some of the highest puzzle earners last week for the first week of the March Mathness Competition! Nice work Room 101!

Thank you to all the parents who came in to read with us this morning. We had 4 parents read this morning! Thank you to Mrs. Busa, Ms. Alexander, Mrs. Field and Mrs. Fothergill. The parents helped us with reading our March sponsored book with the students. Thank you to the Sylas and Fothergill families for sponsoring this month's class book! We hope families will spend additional time reading all the sponsored books.
