PG Learning Commons, Blanket Update & Parents as Readers

This week was another busy week in Room 101. On Tuesday we went to the New England Aquarium. Please see previous post about our trip! On Wednesday we went to the PG Learning Commons and were able to try out the new comfy furniture! On Friday we had our 3rd Parents as Readers event and it was awesome to have 7 parents in to read with us! Then we finished our individual quilts. We have 3 more special blankets, quilts or afghans to see and then we will have our culminating blanket even on Wednesday, January 31st. All students should bring their special items back in so we can compare them and then read under them with our 4th grade partners! The students are very excited to do this!

Blankets, Quilts & Afghans

The finished quilts are hanging over the cubbies in the hallway in front of our classroom. When you are in volunteering please check them out! They look great. These quilts will be displayed for awhile in the hall then we will send them home. Thank you to Mrs. Mailhot and Mrs. Faranda who helped us create the last 6 quilts today. We needed the extra help.

Aquarium Field Trip

We had a wonderful day exploring life sciences yesterday at the New England Aquarium!  Students used all their senses as they listened to touched, smelled and saw a wide range of reptiles, fish, birds and more.

We traveled to the top of the giant tank to see Myrtle, the 90 year old sea turtle.

Students rolled up sleeves and dunked hands in the giant touch tank.  They were able to touch sting rays and sharks!

A special thank you to the Pine Glen PTO!  The PTO supports the kindergarten program by supplying us with t-shirts to wear for our trips and helped to offset some of our transportation expenses!

Snowpeople Building!

A couple weeks ago we worked with the 4th graders to create our snowman glyphs. On Friday we went outside in the snow and built our own snowpeople. During recess the 4th graders joined us and helped us build and add details to the snowpeople. Next week we will be using what we learned through this experience to write our own instructional writing on "How to Build a Snowperson".  We had so much fun!
