Highlights of Week 3

We had the Kindergarten Hoot of the Week again! Congratulations to Slate for being this week's Kindergarten Hoot! We celebrated Riya's birthday and she made goody bags for all her classmates! We also had many at home readers and students who made it to their next percentage in ST Math. All students who had at least 60 minutes of time on ST Math earned special Hoot cards. Way to go Room 101.

Week 3 of Kindergarten

We have completed the second week of our new CKLA program and we are working hard on our Skills unit. We have been listening and tracking sounds and words. We are making and tracing horizontal, vertical and curved lines. We have been practicing using a correct pencil grip, writing on a vertical surface and working on left and right (you may have noticed a little stamp on your child's right hand, this is to help us remember our left from our right). We also used play doh to practice making the different types of lines and writing our names. In our Knowledge Unit we have been learning Nursery Rhymes. We have been think, pair, sharing with a partner (or turning and talking) and discussing lots of questions about what students notice in pictures that go along with our nursery rhymes and comprehension questions. For this unit there have been many exit tickets that the students have had to illustrate the different nursery rhymes we are learning. The students have been reciting the nursery rhymes during our lessons and at other random times throughout the day, so the students are internalizing their learning, which we LOVE to hear and see in school!

4th Grade Partners

This week we met up with our 4th grade partners for the first time. We read a Let's Find Out- Will You Be My Friend, completed the Let's Find Out worksheets and played a getting to know you game.  At the beginning of our time together we danced to Tooty Ta together (check out the video below) and when the 4th graders left the partners high fived for a great time! We are very excited about this partnership and we look forward to many learning experiences with our partners!
