We are excited to share that we have kicked off a service learning project at Pine Glen! Service learning opportunities combine learning goals and community service in ways that can enhance both student growth and the common good. In the words of the National Service Learning Clearinghouse, it is “a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.”
Kindergartners and 4th graders will work along with high school students to support those
in need. We are becoming Hunger Heroes!
Earlier this week we met with representatives from Burlington's People Helping People
organization. They talked to us about the food pantry and the many people the pantry serves.
Today kindergarten students teamed up with 4th grade students to kick off a soup collection
campaign. After listening to a story about hunger and learning how we could serve as
Hunger Heroes, we made posters that will be displayed both at Pine Glen at Burlington
High School. Our friends at the high school who are in the Spanish club hang our posters
and will collect cans of soup there.

All soup will be delivered to students in grade 4 who will sort and organized the
donations to prepare them for delivery to the pantry.
Please consider donating a few cans of soup! We will be collecting through Friday,
February 1.
We are very excited about supporting our community. Stay tuned as we continue to
explore ways to support our local and broader, world community!
