We have completed 29 days of kindergarten. We have been working so hare in school and learning so much. Take a look at all we have been up to this week!
We learned a lot about pumpkins. We cut one open and looked at the cross section of the pumpkin. We then made our own diagram of a pumpkin and labeled the different parts of the pumpkin. We also read a Let's Find Out about pumpkins and we searched for some of our sight words in the magazine. We have read non fiction and fiction books about pumpkins and we voted for what we want our class pumpkin to look like. Mr. Parnell has a bit of work ahead of him carving the pumpkin according to the class directions!
We also decorated our "Party in the Bag" bags. Please be sure to read the directions attached to the bag! We need parent help to make this a success. Thank you for your help. We need the FILLED bags back to school on Thursday, October 29th so we know all students will be ready for our party on the 30th.
We also started our FUNdations phonics program this week. We have done the orientation for this program. We learned how writers sit, the grasp we use to write, the different lines- sky line (top line), plane line (dotted line), grass line (third line) and worm line (the bottom) line. We practiced sky writing different sized lines then we practiced writing lines on the dry erase boards including how to trace back up on a line. Lastly we learned the drill sound for our first letter- t we say t- top- /t/ and then we learned how to write the letter t the kindergarten way. Please refer to the packed that was sent home before our virtual open house for the verbiage on how to help your child write the letters the kindergarten way. Thanks for your assistance. We also started our FUNdations workbooks today and we rainbow wrote the letter t and colored in the top.
We also practiced our sight words with the roll and record dice game. We hope all our students have been practicing their flashcards at home. Our first test was today!
We also met with our 4th grade partners. We had an awesome time with them on Thursday. It was a beautiful day for outdoor learning. We started our time by playing a dice game to get to know our favorite things about our partners. Then we played a math pumpkin and ghost game. Next we did a guided draw on the Drawing Pad app on the iPads. About a third of the way through the students guessed it was Frankenstein! To end our time together each student was given a spider ring and we did the Raffi song There's a Spider on the Floor. So glad we are finding ways to continue to have school be fun with lots of different learning experiences!
