Global School Play Day

GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY

February 6, 2019

Giving children the opportunity to do what is becoming a lost art – PLAY!

In his TEDx lecture, The Decline of Play, Peter Gray argues the case that it is time we return the gift of play to today's generation of children.

February 4, 2015, was the first annual Global School Play Day.

If you ask most kindergartners what their favorite part of their day is...they'll tell you recess.  Recess give many children opportunities to shine!  Students who struggle to sit and attend in the classroom can climb the playground equipment with ease - demonstrating their hand-eye coordination, concentration and perseverance!
Play give students an opportunity to demonstrate sportsmanship, a competitive spirit, kindness and empathy.

Observing play we see kindness, laughter, problem solving, the development of fine and gross motor skills, engineering with design and construction, and collaboration.  Children practice their interactive skills in getting over small problems and self-advocating to resolve issues.

It gives students an increased amount of self control and helps them to release some anxiety.

Although learning in room 101 is always fun, we had some extra fun activities.  We had a blast playing with and exploring the many toys and treasures that were brought to school for the day. Our 4th grade partners came down to play with us!
