High School Visitors!

One of the Town of Burlington’s goals is collaboration. This year the students in Room 101 will collaborate with Ms. Hoerle’s Italian IV Burlington High School class. Today Ms. Hoerle’s class came to our classroom. We had a quick morning meeting and introduced ourselves in Italian. Ciao! Mi chiamo _________. E tu?. Next we all worked together to put together a world map. We found the United States and Italy and we learned that we needed to take a plane or a boat to get from Massachusetts to Italy. The students found out that the country of Italy is shaped like a high heel boot. We saw what the Italian flag looked like and we learned the names for the colors of the flag in Italian- green- verdi, white- bianchi and red- rossi,  Next we had a movement break and we moved to Dr. Jean's Tooty Ta.

After the break the kindergartners and their high school partner(s) read the What Will We Eat book that the kindergartners completed a few days ago. The kindergartners read the English and the high school partner read the Italian. These books went home today! Next we went through a slide show of the numbers and colors that were in the book and again the kindergartners read the English and the HS students read the Italian then the kindergartners attempted to echo the Italian words. We had a quick turn and talk with our HS partner and we shared our favorite part of the visit.

We had time for one more quick movement break and the HS students did GoNoodle's Kids Bop, Fight Song with us! We ended by giving a quick high five to our partners! The kindergartners enjoyed having their high school partners read and talk with them! All students BIG and SMALL had a great time today and we are all looking forward to seeing each other again in the spring.
