New Animals Arrived to Beatrix Potter's Nursery

Crystal really prefers to be kept outside of the cage.

We had new animal friends delivered to us in Beatrix Potter's Nursery on Monday!  Ms. P collected the snake and turtle and left us a crayfish, 2 gerbils named Natasha and Claire, and a parrot named Crystal!

The crayfish looks an awful lot like a tiny lobster and has an exoskeleton like one.  However, he lives in freshwater.

The gerbils are very busy animals.  They are nocturnal, but when they are awake they are moving!  We learned that their teeth never stop growing.  They chew on carboard and other things to help file their teeth short.  They have very long tails to help them balance.

Crystal is an African Gray Parrot.  She is really cool.  She is 14 years old and is expected to live to 60-80!  As Ms. P was speaking, Crystal was quite content preening herself and checking us out.  She is not 100% comfortable yet but we expect to be chatting with her soon.  When the room is quiet in the morning is is sure to greet teachers and custodians with a "hello"!
