With the snow arriving in our area earlier this year playing in the snow has been an added dimension to this months activities. The students have been challenged to beat their daily time and they are still excited about being able to play in the snow. The process of getting our snow clothes on for recess and off and packed up after recess has been a bit of a challenge. We have a few unclaimed gloves, a hat (and a blue lunch box?) that have not been claimed and one of our students is missing snow clothes. If you happen to have snow clothes that do not belong to your child please send them back to school.
Last week we started our personal narratives. This process writing is very difficult for kindergartners. They continued to try their best even though a lot of them found the process HARD and some communicated that they did not particularly like this job. On Monday, we completed our narratives by making a title page. When the students read their stories they did feel a sense of accomplishment and we were extremely proud of them! (Thank you to the parents who sent in pictures to assist their child with planning their story. It is so much easier when the students can put the pictures that were emailed into order. The students were able to see what happened in the beginning, middle and end of their story!)
This week we also worked on completing Topic 4 in math comparing Numbers 0-10. We had our test today and the students did well. We have been working on our Holiday book and we have been comparing and contrasting the different holidays. We have found many common threads including, light, family, food, presents and celebrating to be similarities. We have also created giant goody bags that will be filled with holiday treasures that your child has created throughout the month. These very special bags will come home on Thursday, after we have our K Winter Celebration on Wednesday and our Gingerbread Day with our 4th grade buddies on Thursday.

The students have also been working very hard on ST Math and we have been learning about Recycling in science. Our Recycling unit will end with our Recycling Party the morning of December 20th, when the students will use the materials that parents have sent in to create (reuse) materials to create something new! In the afternoon we will be having our whole school reward and we will watch a movie. The students are welcome to wear their PJ's to school on (Wednesday for our K Winter Celebration and again on Friday for the whole school reward day). Also please pack an extra snack and drink on Thursday and Friday! IT WILL BE A BUSY WEEK!
We attended the 4th and 5th grade concert on Tuesday morning. The kindergartners were terrific audience members and they were excited to see their 4th grade buddies perform! They had the opportunity to wave to each other before the concert started. (It is so nice the connection the Kindergartners and 4th graders have with each other).
We also created our Winter graphic organizer and we planned pretend outdoor parties for the winter season. This project goes along with our science unit on weather and the seasons that continues all year.
