We Are Working Hard in Room 101

This week we started Heggerty and week 1 of Fundations. The students are doing well managing these two new academic programs. With Heggerty we are playing a lot of verbal word games- rhyming, onset and rime, isolating first sounds, isolating last sounds, segmenting and combining compound words, adding parts of words, deleting parts of words and changing parts of words. We are also going over letters and sounds and sentence dictation, counting how many words are in each sentence and what talking about what punctuation would be at the end of the sentence.

We have been working on reading our emergent readers. We are finding our first set of sight words in these readers. We are also noticing how many words are in each sentence and what kind of punctuation is at the end of the sentences. We started two new books, the 5 Little Pumpkins and the Body book. We have been practicing letters t, b & f and we are almost done with our weather charts. We are continuing with practicing our counting and number writing and building our sight words with letter magnets. We also started our new SEL curriculum- Wayfinder.

Ms. Russo, DSC teacher for grades K&1 came in to read the class a book about differences and how we can all work together and help those students who are still learning how to cooperatively play. The kindergarteners have been invited to take turns visiting and playing with DSC Room 109 students during our WIN time. Three students each day will be able to join Room 101 for Discovery time from 10-10:30. Please see the letter that went home with students on Thursday.
