Highlights of the Week

We were working hard in Room 101 this week! We finished our Blanket, Quilts and Afghan Unit with our last three classmates sharing.

Our mornings start out with snack, before school work- like painting pennies and nickels for the February calendar and coloring a groundhog poem, or reading books or working on puzzles.  Sometimes we work on the iPads.

Mr. Donoff continues to spend Tuesday mornings with us teaching us more about coding. We have started to have the mouse move from continent to continent. On Monday we will start learning more about the 7 continents.

We continued our work on procedural writing. This has been a progression. First, we worked on a book to learn how to get dressed in the winter. Then, we made posters explaining the steps to get ready to go out in the winter. Lastly, the students wrote their own stories about how to build a snowman. The work with our 4th grade partners on our snowman glyphs and building real snowpeople helped the students with understanding and background knowledge to be able to instruct someone else on how to build a snowperson using their procedural writing!

Today we went to the Learning Common to hear Ms. Small read a book. We choose new books to borrow and read for the week and we spent some time in the Maker Space.

My daughter Lindsay joined us for the day today. She is a junior at Burlington High School and today the juniors and seniors had shadow day and observed and helped out at a profession that they were interested in pursuing in college.  Lindsay is thinking that she may want to be a teacher. She enjoyed her day with us and I think all the students in Room 101 enjoyed having Lindsay visit.
