Highlights from this week

We had another busy week in Room 101. Room 102 invited the entire kindergarten in to learn about caterpillars and then author /illustrator Aaron Becker joined us to share wordless books that he illustrates!

We have been using pattern blocks and geometric blocks to help reinforce our EnVision Math Shape Units. We sent home the Shape book the students created earlier this week. We are becoming shape experts. Be sure to ask your child what 2D or flat shares are and what 3D or solid shapes are.

Mrs. Kearney read a Weekly reader on the Spring season and the students learned about the different parts of a flower. We hope the plants that were sent home as Mother's Day gifts will eventually grow big and strong and flower. Then your child can tell you all the parts of the flower.

We have started to learn about American Symbols. We have learned a little about how the American Flag has changed. We are also creating stars for our classroom door and windows.

We have also started our Community Helper Unit. We have watched a Brain Pop Jr. short video, read many books, created a poster and we hope to have some parents in to talk about their community helper job. Please email Mrs. Parnell if you'd like to come in to talk about your job. Thanks!

The students worked really hard this week, so an extra recess was earned on Friday afternoon. It was nice to get out now that the spring weather has finally arrived.
