A Message From Mr. Lyons

At a time when we have so much information to process, thought it would be

helpful to remind you about a message Mr. Lyons sent out:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is time to begin the process of creating new class lists for the 2020-2021 school year.
Creating new class lists is a thoughtful and cooperative process that involves a variety
of components and perspectives.  Teachers, guidance, and special education staff assist
the principal in developing class lists. The placement process is dependent upon many
factors that ensure balanced and cohesive classrooms.  Factors that influence the placement
process include:

-Even Distribution of Boy/Girl                          -Social Strengths/Needs
-Academic Strengths/Needs                               -Emotional Strengths/Needs
-Organizational/Study Habits                            -Class Size
-Instructional Groupings                                    -Peer Relations

Throughout the year, students’ instructional grouping varies for reading and writing instruction,
and on occasion for math, science, and social studies. Students often receive instruction from
teachers other than their homeroom teacher, which results in many teachers knowing and
collaborating toward students’ growth.  We place students in classrooms to best meet their
academic, social, and emotional needs to maximize learning.

Parents and guardians are welcome to participate in the placement process.  If you wish to
share your perspective regarding your child’s academic, social, and emotional strengths
and needs please send me an email (jlyons@bpsk12.org) in relation to the following
questions and topics.

1. What do you consider to be your child’s academic strengths and needs?
2.What do you consider to be your child’s social and emotional strengths and needs?
3.What strategies, interventions and support worked best with your child this school year?
4.Please describe your child’s experience developing positive peer relationships this year.
5. Please share any other relevant information about your child.

Please understand a parental request for a specific teacher is not a viable component to
the placement process.  Final placement decisions are the responsibility of the principal
and all placement decisions are final.  It is voluntary to send an email.  The same consideration
and care will be given to every student during the placement process regardless.  If you would
like to convey information, please email me no later than April 24, 2020.

Thank you for supporting this placement process and working in partnership with all of us
at Pine Glen Elementary School.  Pine Glen Elementary School is exceptionally fortunate
to have fantastic teachers. I am very confident your child’s new school year will be productive,
meaningful and enjoyable.

Respectfully,

John Lyons,  M.S. Ed.
