We Had a Busy Third Week!

We had another busy week in kindergarten. We learned more about apples. We finished estimating how many seeds were in the different kinds of apples- Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and MacIntosh. The number of seeds in each of the apples we cut open ranged from 6-11 seeds. The students were surprised that the different apples had different numbers of seeds. The students did a great job estimating. We checked how many fewer or more each students guess was using a number line. We even had a few students who estimated the correct number of seeds and they were "right on the nose" with their guess!

On Tuesday we had our school pictures taken. All our student were all dressed up and looked terrific!

We read our second Let's Find Out Scholastic Magazine about apples. We predicted answers to questions about apples before we read the magazine online. This was a new concept to the students. We used clipboards and got into our offices for the first time this year. We learned that there is a star in the middle of apples, apples float in water and apples are also eaten by some animals!  We also experimented with an apple in our classroom so the students could see the apple floating in the water.

The block area continues to be a popular choice area when all the work board jobs are complete. Owen, Harrison and Steven built this tall tower on Wednesday.

We finalized our classroom rules this week and took an oath to try our best to follow them. Our rules are hanging up in our classroom with signed handprints around them. We also created our Hopes and Dreams for the school year. Some hopes and dreams for the year included learning about letters, how to read,  how to write, making new friends, taking care of others and learning more math. We will be hanging our Hopes and Dreams up in the classroom. So be sure to check them out when you are in volunteering!

The students worked so hard this week and our popcorn jar is almost filled! I think we will fill it sometime next week. So be on the lookout for information about the reward the students voted for! We were so impressed with how hard everyone tried this week we did reward them with a short Leapfrog video about reading. The video highlighted the story of the Three Little Pigs. The students enjoyed being able to read along and participate with the video. Our students are definitely Three Little Pig EXPERTS!

On Friday, some important information was sent home in the green communication folders for parents. The permission for our first field trip, along with a letter to check in with parents, the October Newsletter and the October lunch menu. Please be sure to read all this important information and send back the permission slip and payment for the zoo.  Thank you for your help and support. Our parent volunteers start on Monday. We can't wait to show you all how our well our students are doing in kindergarten.
