Community Helper - Grocery Store Clerk/Mail Carrier - and - Read Aloud Sassafras

Today we learn about grocery store clerks and postal carriers.
See the slideshow embedded below.

Enjoy today’s read aloud and challenges!

Today Wendy Pavlicek reads the story Sassafras by Audrey
Penn. Sassafras is a skunk that is tired of being teased for
his stinky smell. He soon realizes that all animals have special
ways of keeping themselves safe.

Now that you are a skunk expert, see if you can answer these
questions:

  • What are baby skunks called?
  • How many babies do they have at a time?
  • What do skunks eat?
  • How far can they spray?
Make a brochure or pamphlet all about skunks! Do some
of your own research and add a picture and 3-4 facts about
skunks in your work. Have fun!

Check out this skunk with all the parts labeled:

Need a little laugh?
Here is a skunk joke for you…

What do you get when you cross a bear with a skunk?
(See the bottom of the page for the answer.)

Try this math dice game called SKUNK. Watch the video
tutorial and then print a game board or make your own:

Be sure to think some good thoughts!
Today’s Chant:

Good, better, best.
Never let it rest.
Until your good is better,

And your better is your best!

Answer: (Winnie the phew!!)
